And the floor shook ……….

I’m not sure whether it was the wardrobe doors rattling, the dogs jumping up at the bed or the sound of the rumble, but 1.00am this morning I though a lorry had run into the house. Neil, who can normally sleep through anything woke, said ‘oh, it’s an earthquake’ as if we have them all the time – how did he know? I don’t know, but he was right. It did frighten Brinkley & Brandy though. They were immediately out of bed and barking. I picked them up to reassure them while Neil went and checked that the house was still intact. I could see others looking out from their windows as well so it was obviously not just our house that was affected, so all I needed to do now was try and get the dogs to go back to their own beds and back to sleep.

Needless to say, this was not easy as they were a little spooked by what had happened and Brinkley has a particular knack of clinging on to you with his front paws, but after a little while I managed to get Brandy to settle and Brinkley wasn’t far behind him. They had been sleeping in separate beds but after the rude awakening they’d had they decided there was safety in numbers and went back to sleep together.

We now know that half of the country was affected and that an earthquake of 5.2 had hit not so far away, the largest in 25 years – it shook us all at the time but the pups are certainly not showing any signs of concern this morning, they are just the same as normal. We’ll have to see whether there are any problems getting them to bed tonight.
