Brinkley & Brandy are 8 weeks old, and that means it’s time for our visit to the vets for their first injection. They have a travel cage in the back of the car that we have been getting them used to and they seem happy enough in the car, we’ve been out a few times. I just have to remember to drive around corners gently otherwise they end up running from one side to another. They are always quiet whilst we are travelling and don’t seem stressed when we arrive. That was about to change.
When we got to the vets it was full of a lot of very large dogs. Things took a downward turn when a rather large Retriever decided to bark – not something Brinkley & Brandy were very keen on, but I got them settled down again, and we waited, along with a couple more new puppies who were obviously there for the same reason.
After about 30 minutes it was our turn, and they both behaved very well whilst the vet gave them a general check over. Brandy was extremely well behaved and took his injection with the smallest of noises and that was that , Brinkley however, not so simple – he created at the highest volume of his little voice. Not a happy puppy and he let all the waiting surgery know it. When we got back home he was shaking like a leaf and wouldn’t leave my side. It concerned me that he would associate travelling in the car with a bad experience. So once I had calmed him down and he had stopped shaking and gone to sleep I called Dad to see if he was in for a visit and a coffee.
A little later, we loaded them both into the car again and as expected Brinkley was not happy, but we went to Dad’s, they had a little explore and Brandy seemed to bring Brinkley out of his mood a bit and then we had another journey home to do. This time Brinkley was much better when we put him in the car and by the time we got home he was back to his normal self. They both slept well that night, probably due to a stressful day and the effect of their jabs, but at least we seem to have 2 puppies who are still happy to go in the car. Just as well, we have it all to do again in 2 weeks!
